If you’re a student or working a low income job, chances are that you don’t have a lot of money to spend on entertainment. To fix that, this post showcases three games released over the weekend that are either free or cheap.

Night Stop ($4)

Night Stop is an atmospheric horror game that’s set in a rest stop somewhere in the United States Midwest. The game starts out normal but it soon turns sideways as the true nature of the rest stop rears its ugly head.

The most effective aspect of Night Stop is how it uses its sound and art direction to bolster the claustrophobic nature of the setting.

That said, I will give a content warning for blood, disturbing content, and mild gore. This game is not for the faint of heart.

So if you want a good, cheap horror game that won't take up too much of your time then I’d suggest giving Night Stop a chance.

This Visual Novel Exists (Free)

This Visual Novel Exists is a visual novel that was created almost only using AI generators. From the plot to the music to the art, everything in this visual novel is was created using some form of AI,

For those that don’t know, a visual novel is a form of interactive media that mixes a written narrative with images and mild interactivity.

The game isn’t well written but that comes with using a free A.I. writing program. Even with the poor writing, I got a few good chuckles out of the absurd narratives the A.I. was able to put together.

The music in This Visual Novel Exists is also hit or miss as the developer used an A.I. generator for the music. The game's sound volume is also set high by default. So you may want to turn down the music before venturing further into the game.

My content warning for this game is that it has a lot of cursing.

Cutterpillar (Free)

Cutterpillar is a casual browser-based game like Snake. You travel around the map and eat food while you try not to hit obstacles. Though, unlike Snake, there's a benefit to hitting your tail in that you're less likely to get hurt. Getting hurt by enemies makes your health go down slowly, so strategically cutting off your tail to use as a shield is needed when getting a high score.

The game is a browser-based, so you don’t need to worry about downloading any files for it.

It's also addictive if you’re into casual games. So why not try and beat my high score of 47?

In Conclusion

Each of these games is on Itch.io, a website where independent creators can host their work.
